This luxury up-market hotel development situated on Palmer Street; the Grand Mercure Hotel incorporates a 5 storey building featuring over 100 hotel rooms and includes a conference room, swimming pool and restaurant. The development recognises that Townsville has become an increasingly sophisticated business and leisure destination, with the mineral boom and the city’s position as a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef transforming the city into a major regional hub.

To minimise construction time, Glynn Tucker worked in conjunction with the builder to develop a precast concrete deck system to minimise construction time and reduce the quantity of on-site concrete works.

The all-suite property development is also adjacent to the new Hotel Ibis Townsville, for which Glynn Tucker Consulting Engineers was also commissioned to provide full design services for the project.

Key Design Aspects:

  • Schematic, design development and construction design services.
  • Fully piled foundation system.
  • Lateral earthquake design and analysis.
  • Cyclonic wind loading determination studies.
  • Precast floor units to minimise construction time.
