Nambour General Hospital – New Ward Block

Classification
Institutional / Structural
Locality
Nambour, Queensland, Australia
Project Value
$85 Million

The prime objective for this project was to meet the increasing demand on health services in the Sunshine Coast & Cooloola Health Service District. The New 5 level Ward Block is a significant inclusion amongst the building infrastructure at the Nambour Hospital precinct.

The 3850m2 New Ward Block footprint was characterised by large floor spans across the building’s width. The introduction of a fully post-tensioned floor slab as the final floor plate design solution equated to significant time and cost savings to the overall deliverable program. Benefits also included flexibility with the heavily serviced ceiling spaces associated with health care facilities and at the same time providing a robust design solution catering for the imposed floor loadings.

The project also included internal refurbishment work to existing ward blocks and reconfiguration of entrance roadways and associated landscaping improvements.

Key Design Aspects:

  • Schematic, design development and construction design services.
  • Value adding engineering investigation and reporting.
  • Existing building refurbishment design works without disruption to health care activities.
  • Design lateral load analysis: wind, earthquake and structural robustness.
  • Non-displacement CFA piled foundation solution, Pile load testing studies.
  • Multiple lift and stair cores servicing the functions of this health care facility.
  • Post-tensioning floor slab design & services coordination.
  • Precast walling & structural steelwork design & documentation.
