Sydney Harbour Control Tower Demolition

Locality
Sydney Harbour, Australia
Client
Scotia

The 87m high Sydney Harbour control tunnel at Barangaroo which operated from 1974 to 2011 to monitor ships on Sydney Harbour was scheduled for demolition as part of the Barangaroo Precinct development project in 2016.

The project involved de-construction of the redundant control tower consisting of a reinforced concrete column topped by a stainless steel and glass observation and operations room. The work methods employed were a first for Australia that used remote controlled demolition robots and a specialised circular platform mast climbing system.

Glynn Tucker undertook product registration on behalf of XL Industries for their XM6 four mast ringed platform, reviewed demolition sequencing, and provided design & documentation for temporary support grillages, gantries, and associated scaffolding for supporting the mast climber system.

Our extensive experience with involvement on complex high profile projects was essential in assisting our client to deliver exceptional outcomes to the community and other project stakeholders.
